Alzheimer’s Disease Clinical Trials in the Down Syndrome Population Planning Meeting Executive Summary
On November 7, 2018, at NIH in Bethesda, MD, the NIH sponsored the first workshop of the INCLUDE Project (INvestigation of Co-occurring conditions across the Lifespan to Understand Down syndrome) to discuss emerging opportunities for Alzheimer’s Disease Clinical Trials in the Down Syndrome Population. This preliminary planning meeting will be followed by additional workshops to bring together all relevant stakeholders to fully engage on this topic of great importance to the Down syndrome community. Representatives from NIH, clinical researchers, and other members of the Down syndrome and Alzheimer’s Disease communities participated. Previous experiences in this area and promising new directions were discussed in order to begin to identify priorities for further development. The INCLUDE Project, launched in FY 2018 and continuing in FY 2019, will support a broad range of research to address critical health and quality of life needs for individuals with Down syndrome.
